INTERIOR PAINTING

At BLACK and WHITE PAINTING SERVICES we have found through experience that a systematic approach helps us to deliver the quality job that we have promised you. Below are the general steps we will take on your project. Your situation may vary depending upon your needs as outlined on your Proposal.
What you can expect:

· Furniture, floors and carpets will be protected by drop sheets.
· Dirt, grease, mildew, soap, nicotine and oil will be washed from all surfaces prior to painting.
· Stains such as watermarks, mould and ink that could "bleed through" the new paint will be sealed.
· Loose paint will be scraped back and the surface sanded smooth.
· Cracks and holes in walls, ceilings and woodwork will be filled and sanded smooth.
· Open joints and gaps between surfaces will be filled for a cleaner and more finished appearance.
· New timber and plasterboard will be undercoated prior to being painted.
· Only quality paints are to be used to ensure longevity.
· A sufficient number of coats (usually 2 for walls) should be applied to achieve good colour coverage and for a long-lasting finish.
· All excess paint should be removed from windows or anything else not being painted.
· Touch-up paint should be labelled and left for future use.

Note: whilst painters undertake minor replastering on walls and ceilings it is unrealistic to expect painters to return these surfaces to an “as new” condition. If you require perfect walls and ceilings please advice your painter and they should be able to recommend a good plasterer.

EXTERIOR PAINTING

At BLACK and WHITE PAINTING SERVICES we have found through experience that a systematic approach helps us to deliver the quality job that we have promised you. Below are the general steps we will take on your project. Your situation may vary depending upon your needs as outlined on your Proposal.
What you can expect:

All surfaces to be painted should be cleaned prior to painting.

· Mildew will be treated.
· Loose paint will be scraped back and the surface sanded smooth.
· Gaps will be filled to prevent moisture from penetrating the surface.
· All loose nails will be re-set and re-puttied as necessary.
· Loose and/or missing window glaze should be replaced.
·Bare timber and metal will be primed prior to painting.
· Rust will be sanded and treated with a quality rust primer/undercoat.
· Only quality paints will  be used to ensure longevity.
· A minimum of 2 coats should be applied to all exterior surfaces. When paint has been taken back to a bare surface eg bare timber weatherboards, we recommend either 3 coats of a self-priming paint or 1 coat of primer plus 2 coats of exterior paint.
· Excess paint will removed from windows and the entire area cleaned.
· Touch-up paint will be labelled and left for future use.

Note: it is unrealistic to expect painters to remove all old paint or fill every imperfection. It is standard practice to sand surfaces to ensure a stable base for painting. This can leave paint ridges which show through the new paint work. Please be sure to advise your painter at the quotation stage if this is not acceptable to you.
